Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has hailed the hard-fought victory over Tottenham in the North London derby as evidence that the team has learned crucial lessons from last season’s title collapse.

The English winger’s stellar performance, contributing a goal and an assist, played a key role in Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Spurs on Sunday, despite a tense second half where they almost squandered a three-goal lead.

With Manchester City’s concurrent match against Nottingham Forest, Saka revealed that he and his teammates were keenly aware of the potential impact any slip-up could have on the title race. Speaking on Sky Sports, Saka acknowledged the necessity for Arsenal to maintain perfection in the remaining fixtures.

“Yeah,” Saka concurred when asked if Arsenal needed to be flawless for the rest of the season. Regarding his plans for watching Manchester City’s match, he quipped, “Shower, get on the bus, put the game on and hope for the best! City are an amazing team but they’re not perfect, no one’s perfect, they can drop points. We just need to do our jobs and see where it leads us.”

Reflecting on Arsenal’s growth, Saka emphasised the team’s readiness and the lessons gleaned from previous setbacks. “We’ve got experience now, we’ve learned our lessons from last year. We’re ready for the last three games,” he asserted.

“We showed that today; maybe last season that could have ended in a draw, but today we showed that we have the experience now and we can come here and get three points when the stakes are high.”

Despite Tottenham’s late resurgence, Saka remained composed, recognising the significance of the victory. “The last 20 minutes weren’t nice but it was worth it,” he remarked. “We know what it means to the fans and to us, we’re delighted. It means everything, we know it’s a massive win and we’ve got three [games] to go. We’ll give it everything and see where it leads us.”
